Lae sighed and sat back in his chair, his hands steepled in front of him. The poor man was worn ragged, his blonde hair escaping in wisps from his loose ponytail. The onset of term, coupled with a larger library that the move had provided him with and Tilly had torn his attentions, but mostly his time. He’d been thinking for a while about asking for some help, but it was only when he started to actually fall asleep at his desk that the man had given in and gone to the Dean.

After that, it’d just been a mater of typing up some sort of poster. Lae hated computers with a passion, so he’d handwritten it in his neat, spidery script, and then copied it twice so he had three copies: one for outside the library, one for the school notice board, and one for the common room. Utilitarian, they’d just simply asked for what he needed:

“Librarian’s Assistant Needed:

Talk to Lasker Engel for more information
Bring CV.”

It had been surprisingly scary to go and pin the thing up in the common room. He’d not been to the one in the new building yet and it seemed so…otherworldly. Lae had had to remind himself that he really wasn’t that old, and there was nothing wrong with him being there.

But a week later, it had brought him no joy. Apparently his horrible old man routine has scared off any potential hope. Half of Lae wasn’t surprised, and the other half was glad that he wouldn’t have to give up some of his responsibilities to a lazy pup, but a tiny part of him was annoyed. The library was a good place to work. Why had they all passed it up?

Sighing, Lae went back to sorting the books that had been piled on his desk. There was no point crying over spilt milk. Thinking about such things certainly wouldn’t help get the work that needed to be done finished. If the students didn’t want to apply, Lae would just have to survive working by himself as he always had done.

((Sorry it took me so long to get something up. And sorry it's so awful!))

The notice had been posted nearly a week before, up on the common room board. Of course he had seen it, while other not so studious teens passed up the job opportunity. It probably didn't pay much, yet it was rare for a student to even find a job in this foreign place, that is, if you were foreign.

Mikah was one such person. And with his own savings deprived, the teen was desperate to find some way to fund his increasing interest in the Atlantian market. But why wait an entire week if he wanted the job so terribly?

"What if he knows?" Mikah muttered to himself as he walked along the main corridor, hands shoved deep within his pockets, safely out of harms way, or at elast one's line of sight. His one worry, you might ask? Would you want an uncontrolled fire user in your precious library? The one thing that Mikah belived he had going for him remained his one last hope for getting the job, hence why he was heading for the library at the moment. Mikah was an avid visitor to the wide open room, which half posed as an art gallery than it's true form of a library. If he hadn't been kicked out yet, maybe the odds were in his favor. It wasn't as though he was troublesome to anyone when there, in fact, reading was a pastime of his, old works and more modern titles.

Having made up his mind, Mikah stepped past the pillars that opened into the vast shelves and paintings of the library, his eyes set on the main desk. There sat the man he was looking for. Keeping eye contact, the blue eyed teen stepped up to the desk, and spoke,

"Hi, um, I was wondering if that position for the Librarian's Assistant was still open? " Personally, he knew it was, having seen his fellow classmates not even give Lae's add's a second glance. In truth, they probably could have been a bit more flashy, to draw attention. Already, that hinted at the necessity of needing an assistant. Either Lae just didn't have time to make the notice, or perhaps he just wasn't in the inventive type of mood.

"Hi, um, I was wondering if that position for the Librarian's Assistant was still open?"

Lae looked up from his books, regarding the boy in front of him carefully for a long moment. He recognised him, but couldn't place him in particular: a good start, since anyone who had brought themselves to Lae's attention normally meant that they'd been misbehaving. And the boy looked sensible enough, even if he was wearing tattered jeans, a fashion that Lae completely disapproved of (along with wearing one's jeans around ones crotch rather than waist where they were meant to be).

Closing the book, Lae stood up, straightening out his shirt. "Yes, it is." He was desperately trying to remember the student's name, but was failing to think of anything. Well, since he looked young, he was probably a first year anyway, so that wasn't so inexcusable. "Why don't you come into my office so we can talk without disturbing people?" He suggested with what was almost a smile.

Stepping back, Lae opened the door to the cluttered, book filled space he used to repair the books. "Take a seat." Lae offered, though there were only two on offer: his work chair, tucked neatly under the desk, and a comfortable looking armchair in the corner.
