Qualifications: He's of the Atlantean elite, and graduated from a prestigious teacher's college. He also was very fascinated about the outside world and studied it continuously. He believes it was with this knowledge that he got the job at the mixed school.

Physical Description: Zeil has short white hair that gets longer in the front and goes down pas his perceptive eyes. He has a lean build from travelling. He weighs about 165 lbs. and he is about 6”2. He has three earrings on each ear and a very small stud above his left eye. He has a pair of clear glasses for when he wants to look more like a teacher. He usually likes to wear long trench coats over a formal suit. He likes to look clean and tidy, and it’d be a feat to see him wearing something casual. He wears black dress pants, a white dress shirt, a black vest and a plain red tie. His trench coat is a darker grey or blue if he feels like a change. He wears white gloves because of his power, and his few moments where he feels the need to use it unnecessarily. His shoes are a sort of dress shoe, but he feels more comfortable in his traveling boots. He carries around a big brief case with all his books and supplies for his classes.

Where He’s From: He is from the East district of the second ring. His family owns a prosperous, if shady, business. He lived in a manse, with his immediate family.

Background: Zeil was part of a very wealthy family that belonged to Atlantean elite. He grew up having servants cater to his every whim. His father was a merchant, who got lucky enough to marry the owner of a very prosperous company. The company dealt in many underhanded and illegal markets to strike it rich. It was shady, but his family had the influence to back itself up every time the authorities showed up. Zeil, was raised to become the new head of the company, and from an early age he was taught the underhanded politics that he would need to rise above in the world. However pampered he was, he hated the fact that his parents had hardly enough time for him. He became friends with the servants, and would always be hanging out in their quarters. He also met the son of one of the chefs, and they became best friends.

Soon Zeil got old enough for school. He was enrolled in a prestigious academy that taught only the wealthiest. Within the first two weeks someone attempted to assassinate him. One of the other students had brought a knife [because their parent had told them to] and attacked Zeil. He was pulled from the academy and given private lessons at home. His mom took this opportunity to show him that being paranoid was the way to stay alive. He soon had very little friends, only ever trusting the chef’s son, Karn. Learning was easy thanks to his drive. He knew that if he could learn everything, he would find a way to get away from the claws of his parents and make his own way in life. He never wanted to hurt people like the company he would work for did, and he decided he was going to be a teacher. He studied hard, and would take oppurtunities to teach Karn, to get experience.

When he was 20, his mom finally felt that he was ready for his first job. The company had started sending out agents into the world outside Atlantis in order to gain information. She sent Zeil, with Karn as a protector out to gain information. Zeil spent the next ten years traveling around the world, and learning what he could. Thanks to the cheery influence of Karn, he forgot his mother’s cruel intentions, and his only goal was to learn more about the world. They started to grow closer, and there were even thoughts of a relationship between them. However, when he turned thirty Zeil got a letter saying that the chef had betrayed them. The company had caught him before anything damaging had happened and he had been terminated. Zeil was ordered to finish off Karn, who definitely would have problems with his family being killed. Zeil had no hesitation; he showed Karn the letter and told him to stay outside of Atlantis in order to be safe. Karn followed his advice, but he wanting nothing to do with any Usotali, including Zeil. Their relationship was destroyed, and Zeil returned to Atlantis with the news that Karn was dead. He then promptly gave the company up to the authorities.

With most of his family and anyone he grew up with in jail he decided on a new start. He applied at the prestigious mixed academy, hoping to get hired for his knowledge and experience with the outside world.

Personality: In the classroom he is cold and merciless. He knows that kids can get the better of you if you are nice and weak towards them. He rules his classroom with an iron fist, and lets nothing go. He is noted for having eyes like a hawk, and never misses anything. Towards other staff, he is friendly but guarded. He doesn’t like letting people know too much about him, and he doesn’t really like getting close to people. He probabl got this from the tutelage of his paranoid mother.

Power: Along with the natural Atlantean powers of working with Nature, Zeil can create ice. He uses a combination of water and air. He adds moisture while making the air extremely cold. Since he has been practicing [sometimes using it against bandits who thought he was easy prey] and learning for many years he can make specific shapes and he is working on making larger and larger amounts. Another trick he has learned is that if he is close to a person he can create ice around them, freezing them.

Weakness: Fire could get past any of his defenses easily. It takes too much time for him to replace melting ice. Also, even though he can do it pretty fast now, it takes time for him to create and manipulate the ice. He is usually vulnerable for about two seconds or more, depending on the quantity of ice. One of his major weaknesses is his temper. He can really lose it if people start insulting him. When he gets angry he stops thinking straight, and starts focusing on just one idea. Finally, he has a little bit of a drive for knowledge, and hates it when he doesn’t know something. This puts him on the bad side of a lot of people who found him eavesdropping on their conversation.

Tell us his thoughts on coming to Atlantis Academy for the first time: He is excited for the opportunity to start teaching and get his mind off his family. He hopes that he can give a new reputation to the Usotali name as a family of bright teachers or anything but mobsters. He is also looking forward to learning about all the different cultures in the world, that are all gathering in this Academy. Finally, he is hoping to make some new friends among the staff, and maybe find some people he could get close to and have fun around.

What are his goals/ambitions, if any?

His one major goal is to learn. He is a teacher, but he knows that having all thesen different kids in one building will give him insight into the outside world. He wants to examine the different students, and see how the Atlanteans react. A secondary goal of his is to get rid of the bad reputation that surrounds his last name. People have always considered his family to be nothing more than a gang, and more than a few are upset that he did not get locked away with them.

Please write a short (no more than 300 words) in-character role play response to one of the following scenes:

As soon as Zeil walked into the classroom the chatter stopped. Every one of the students knew the reputation he had as a teacher, and they all faced the front quietly. Almost all of them, Zeil added as he noticed one at the back, snickering and building a sizeable spit ball. This problem child had been put into his class in the hopes that Professor Usotali could show him some discipline. It had been several weeks now and nothing had changed. He had been supposed to move on in Italian verbs a couple days ago, but with the constant interruptions they had barely moved at all. Zeil started to write on the chalkboard, listening carefully to the back.

“All right class, copy down these notes, they WILL be on the exam and I expect you to know Greece from Rome …”

He paused and tilted his head as he heard the spitball coming. It bounced off of the board into the first row. There was a scream, and the poor girl who had been a great learner ran out off the classroom into the bathroom.

“I’m going to have to write you down for that…” Zeil approached the desk. There was a low wave of snickers from the back. He opened his drawer, and almost jumped backwards in surprise. The idiot had put a snake in his drawer. The class roared with laughter. Zeil was pissed now. Just as the snake arched back for a hiss he grabbed it by the throat. It froze in seconds. He clenched the frozen animal so hard it shattered. The class went silent. He glared daggers at the bow in the back row.

“MY office, after school!”

The boy never came… in fact he dropped out of the academy shortly after.
