Well, I removed the chatbox. This morning, it was giving a ton of links (in the bottom left part of the screen) that looked highly suspicious. This afternoon, it lagged the comp terribly and just a minute ago a virus popped up. I liked that chatbox but I'm not going to risk getting infected by it. Arthur and I will find a more suitable one soon.

Just to let you know in case you were wondering why it's not there. wink.gif

> Did everyone using the shoutbox that got that virus were using Firefox?

> If yes, then I must ask you to verify your system against viruses.
> If not, then no need to worry, as your antivirus got the exploit.

> I want also to apologize for any inconvenience I may have caused or may cause with this goddamn shoutbox. I've investigated it and came to the following conlcusion:

> Apparently, the most recent version of Firefox (3.0.9) has a small exploit that can allow malicious websites take over one's system. If your antivirus managed to get the exploit, no harm done and you shouldn't stress about it. If, while the shoutbox was still active, you experienced excessive slowdowns or crashed, you might want to verify your computer against viruses, or exploits.

> If you do think you have been infected, run an antivirus scan ASAP, and try not to enter any important password. After scanning your computer, change all your major passwords, for extra security.

> I apologize again. This wasn't my immediate fault, for the code was obtained directly from IF's code snippets database, hence deemed trustable. I am now running a 48h controlled experiment with the same shoutbox we used here, on a different forum, on a controlled environment, to see if I can circumvent this exploit or avoid any other exploits. I am sorry for any inconvenience I might have caused, and I politely ask AL's members to hold on while I investigate the shoutbox matter.

> I'd also like to ask Leaders/Council/Seniors not to delete any post. If needed, please just close the topic.

> Techy. Currently, only you and I can see the shoutbox itself. The others will only see an error (because they can't see the shoutbox contents). I want to run it like that for 48h to see if anyone get that same exploit as before.

> Also, anyone still with the links on the lower area of the page, please send me a picture of them and send the Source Code from the page you're on. To do that, you can either right click as close as possible to the links, and click Source Code, copy and paste the whole code on the PM as a [quote] tag, or paste it on a *.txt file and send me the link to download. That can help me identify the source of those links, and wether they are related to the shoutbox or not.
