|Ancient Legion > Council of Members > "community service"|
|Posted by: Mat Jul 12 2009, 01:31 PM|
| well recently and since i have joined there have been some people who have joined the clan and then not done anything whatsoever with the clan. they do not even join the clan chat.
so i propose that to keep our recruitment of active members coming in we need a system that makes the trial members do more for the clan (A bit like community service) this will make them respect the clan and they will find out more about the clan and how it works, with the hierachy etc.
a group of people will control the intake of new recruits and manage the different community service thingies that they will be doing. so one example of what someone could do for community service would be maybe letting the moderate the cc for a week or so...
if people have more things that they could doi would greatly appreciate them
P.S- as you post please rate this idea with either this or this or this

|I like the look of this, though I'd rather see what other "services" you have in mind first.|

| > Allowing newbies to moderate the cc is not viable, as some haven't yet 'acquainted' with a cc environment, so they'll may not have experience on deciding when to kick or not someone from CC.
> Moderating the forums is also not viable, as they can edit anyone's post.

| Hey Mat,
Love the concept. I thought of this a long time ago, but I could never come up with a good way to do it. New members might think that we're using them for resources, experience, cash...ect. People are very cautios about being ripped off.
But I would love to get some of our new members opinions on this.
Sry but gotta say on this one, unless someone comes up with a better idea.

Sorry but I think it's a good idea but you'd need to come up with more ways, those are't very good and wouldn't really help much, giving newbies mod powers.

|ok so giving clan newbies mod powers is a big no no. but those were only examples that were given as i could not think of other ideas. i still cant think of any other ideas so if other people could post and give different ideas of what the clan community service could be,|

| I agreed that putting new members in charge of the cc or the forum is a bad idead. How about changing the requirements so that you have to do more to become a full member. This can go from making more posts (constructive post not spam) ; making them host an event (i know this already exists) ; Report the events they attended (aka event recapp); being to the cc at least # times; having 2 members to say if he should be promoted (trial to full) in the application... (everyone needs to have 2 members votting yes to be accepted)
I dont know this are just ideas, but it also depends on the person... if they dont do anything for the clan its because they dont want to. Personally i wouldnt agree to make someone a full member just cause they would leave otherwise...
Btw i know this isnt about the trial member to full member discussion but its as to do with it.

| I think maybe they should be in charge of creating events for a week or so, or finding new ways we could attract members.
Or they could do some recruiting or think of different events we could have that haven't been tried here before.

Just what I was thinking. I like what Tomas said too.

| > Having them in charge of hosting events might not be the best idea. I know there are newbies that are already acquainted with a standard clanning environment. But what if it were my case? AL was(still is) my first clan i ever joined. Imagine me, a 70 combat noob scheduling an event? How disastrous would it be?
> Also, other members voting wouldn't be viable for the same reason you can't vote who should be promoted (EC, WL, HC, SM). Imagine if we got 10 new trial members on a week. And at the end of the week we'd need to open 10 polls to see whether they should be promoted or not. ANd the shoutbox is not the best way to poll the members... Trial Member promotion should be semi-automatic. The newbie has a bright red signal in front of him. When he achieves something, the signal changes to green and he can apply. What we could/should change is the "achievement" required to allow someone to apply for full membership.
> As for reporting, it even might be an interesting idea, although all the recaps would be quite similar: since the trial member hasn't befriended with someone, they'd just speak highly of the event host, and of the clan staff that went to the event.
> I'm not saying that we won't change the Full Membership requirements, but I'm saying that we gotta be reasonable when doing so. We shouldn't require much, while still having a way of separating ppl who are for real from ppl just seeking for clans and registering in multiple ones.

+1 We should keep the process as automated as possible -- that's not to say that we can't add on other incentives/benefits, but I think we need to keep the process as simple and straightfoward as possible.

Well if that's the case, there's not really much they can do as "community service". Unless you have an idea I haven't heard or something... just can't immagine them doing something as community service if they can't even schedule events for it. I don't really think we need this feature though, I think how we work it is fine as it is.

If people dont want to do anything for the clan then they shoudnt be in it.
