Title: What do you think about IPB?

King Arthur - September 27, 2009 12:08 AM (GMT)
> I was wondering, after looking at many other clan forums:
> We are the only ones around that use IF, which has many security flaws. The other, big, clans use either ZB or IPBFree.
> So, I decided to make a IPB forum for us.

> I was once told that this wouldn't go forward because IPB's interface would be too much different and people wouldn't get used to the new forums, as well we losing all our post counts and posts.

> I fixed one of those problems:

http://ancientlegion.ipbfree.com/index.php

> You might recognize that interface. I tweaked the CSS until it got exactly like our current forums.
> And why should we change, you ask:

> 1. There are a few extra security measures that can virtually prevent people from destroying our forums.
> 2. There are more ways to keep track of members activities, IP based.
> 3. Easier to contact inactive members
> 4. Easier mods to install.
> 5. Multiple Languages, and Multiple Skins
> 6. Many fun things to do on forums, like earning money, and buying upgrades for your forum account, as well battling other members.

> The only downside I could find was us losing our post (and pcounts). But I think this will be a very good way to A: Move on to a better forum system. B: Do a huge inactivity-check on all forum accounts.

> What do you say?

Animal - September 27, 2009 12:10 AM (GMT)
I don't see the problem moving there, but I don't see any differences lol.
But what about my beautiful post count? D:

Donovan Kays - September 27, 2009 12:11 AM (GMT)
Why not? Looks great.

65dragon3 - September 27, 2009 12:14 AM (GMT)
alredy good enough, if it gets too good might go crazy :P

Jss - September 27, 2009 12:16 AM (GMT)
hey why not?

Lit - September 27, 2009 12:42 AM (GMT)
I vote for IPB. IF is rusty. :)

King Arthur - September 27, 2009 12:54 AM (GMT)
> BTW, we can keep the post count. Just not the post themselves.

Lamb Bug - September 27, 2009 01:22 AM (GMT)
We have used this forum for well over a year, and it has satisfied all our necessities and more. I don't think anyone here, myself included, fully comprehends the amount of time and effort put into making these forums the way they are now.

I strongly oppose this.

And have you tried out the new ones to see what they'd be like?

King Arthur - September 27, 2009 02:01 AM (GMT)
> Except for the content, the forums I set up are identical to ours, only with more security.
> Do you know IPB's got an Attacks Log?
> Do you know IPB's sends the admins emails before you can change admins' password?
> (This one I didn't know at all) IPB got a built in IP look-up as well a member IP used log (I think that's somewhat useful).
> And according to Mud and Sisco, you can install 2~3 other extra mods to improve even more the forums security (I still gotta know what mods are those, though :( )

> PS.: But I agree with Lamb on one thing: Zetaboards suck. For now.

> PPS.: Oh and we can have a store on IPB!

Lit - September 27, 2009 02:03 AM (GMT)
It has a store come ooooooooooooon. :(

We could even put that CAPs System back to use.

King Arthur - September 27, 2009 02:07 AM (GMT)
> uhm... No. The CAP system was a total fiasco... We'd stick with a money earned per post basis. However, we can have ranks based on post count (I found that today) as well having a member group set at the same time.

Lit - September 27, 2009 02:17 AM (GMT)
IPB keeps getting sexier with every post you make.

Dylan - September 27, 2009 02:36 AM (GMT)
ive wanted IPB for since i joined this clan :S

Kerkennah - September 27, 2009 03:04 AM (GMT)
How about zeta boards? That way we keep everything. Anyways, I think this is a good idea, gives a fresh start :)

King Arthur - September 27, 2009 03:14 AM (GMT)
> Zetaboards have no support for real-deal mods, neither shoutbox... And its interface is way too different from the ones we are used to.

Dylan - September 27, 2009 06:11 AM (GMT)
btw, though i like IPB wayyy better, i still think we should keep these forums, we have all the posts, etc. + its served us well :)

rsw armoury - September 27, 2009 06:24 AM (GMT)
First thing is that Invisionfree does suck, and it sucks a lot, but it doesn't make any difference if we're not being hacked. The only difference that matters is that we have a lot of posting history on these forums and we would like to preserve that. The IPB forum should be kept around, but used when we get hacked. IPB also has the minor inconvenience of going down every so often.

Tom - September 27, 2009 07:51 AM (GMT)
Err... Im a noob so... Whats the difference?

Donovan Kays - September 27, 2009 04:05 PM (GMT)
IPB IPB

Gameguy535 - September 27, 2009 04:19 PM (GMT)
i really like IPB mainly cuz it has more features lol

King Arthur - September 27, 2009 08:30 PM (GMT)
> IPB does get its down times. So as IF...
> And where in the world you only need security after you are already robbed?
> So basically, you're saying that on São Paulo's subway* we don't need anymore security guards, neither security cameras, since there has been no occurences for the last couple years? We'd could just re-hire guards when someone gets robbed?
> At last, but not the most important, yeah. IPB does have its very good facilities, but that's not what I had in mind (at first... then I saw the arcade and the store mods.... ;) )

> * I used São Paulo's subway because its security is an intl. standard. You may Google it, if you don't believe me :P

> Unfortunately, we'd have to pay to move ALL posts from IF to IPB, but as Kerk said, we'd be able to start fresh, new shoutbox, no ancient topics, no... previous invasions... and we could force all current forum members on a activity check.

> PS.: I found out that on IPB you can require the member to enter their RSN and Membership status when registering at the forums.

oh, and as kool as thew store may sound to people, its not really something to get hyped up about. its just - you post, you get credit and you buy something e.g. a name change on the forums. thats it. and is it really nessecary, i mean were a runescape clan, whats the point?

King Arthur - September 28, 2009 09:19 PM (GMT)
> Actually, you can set the max amount of money one can get/day, and which forums give money for posting in.

Dylan - September 29, 2009 05:06 AM (GMT)
i still think its unnecessary.

Sick Mate 9 - September 29, 2009 12:19 PM (GMT)
i really dont see the difference. but we can always come back to this.. just close the board. but i really dont care.

King Arthur - September 29, 2009 09:48 PM (GMT)
> Yeah, about that... we won't be changing that soon. Eventually, we will, but not soon.
