::How to make images transparent::By Lit
Okay, first of all transparency or alpha channel is obviously something you can't see. It's really useful for sprites and avatars. I noticed many people with white-backgrounded avatars, so this is for you. :P ::Starting out::
DON'T USE MS PAINT!! Microsoft Paint doesn't support the alpha channel. Other more advanced programs like Paint.Net, GIMP and Photoshop do. Get one of these first (I won't suggest since it's obvious which one I recommend lol).::Making things transparent::
Okay the objective here is to delete the things you don't want, either using the eraser tool or the Supr key on your keyboard. I suggest selecting the magic wand tool and clicking on a portion of the background you want to go out. It'll automatically select it and all the colors similar to it (you may need to adjust the Tolerance). After the things you want out are selected, simply press the Supr key.
Tip: To select multiple things at a time, press and hold the CTRL key while clicking on a new area with the magic wand. The two selections will either merge (if the colors and the tolerance are the right ones) or you'll get two different selection zones.::Saving your image correctly::
I don't want to see any of you trying to save images with alpha channel as .jpg, alright? :P The right save files are either .PNG or .GIF (.GIF also supports animations :D)
The programs I listed above (and many more I believe) have a preset save file, it can be used on that program only (.pdn for Paint.Net, .psd for Photoshop, etc.). This also means you can't upload them, so avoid saving your images with these save files unless you're using more than one layer. For information on how to upload pictures, refer to this guide.
Hope this guide helped you guys, expect some more to come soon. :D
