Title: Enough is Enough

Golden arm42 - April 19, 2009 08:54 PM (GMT)
Things are going to change. Right now. The lack of committment and accountability will end. Now.

This issue has been has dogging us for a long time, and I've tried, over this period, to be the nice guy. To try to convince freeloaders to contribute and to convince people to do their jobs. Now, apparently, this issue has brought us close to a point of no return. I'm not going to let us go over the cliff. For a long time now, I've tried to be everyone's friend -- and this is what's happened. Now, instead of asking why we do things, it'll be people's job TO do them. Please read below.

The basic problem is a lack of committment to the clan. We've got people who only care about their individual goals in Runescape. That's perfectly fine. But you don't belong in a clan, at least not in Ancient Legion. There are people -- namely Kid Damon and Starwolf -- who work their rears off to make this clan a better place. Now, these people -- the very best our clan has -- are on the verge of leaving because of people being lazy. When they say something, people complain, whine, do whatever they can to get out of it. When Damon calls a short-prep war, people make excuses or suddenly log. When Starwolf explains new rules to keep the forums more organized, he's attacked and not respected. This will change immediately. From now on, people are going to listen to these kinds of decisions or be punished. Is it what I would like to do? No. But I care too much about the clan to let a few people slowly screw us over with their lack of committment while clouding the determination of those who really do care.

Yet, the staff is not immune to this as well. I hate having to call out people, because that's not my way, but I'm going to this time in the hope it'll inspire people to shape up. I'll take the Event Coordinators as an example. In the last 90 days, y'all have scheduled 18 events. Now, when you signed up, you each committed to scheduling at least one event per week. There are four of you. Now, I'm fairly good at math, but it doesn't take a genius to determine that there should be 48 events scheduled, not 18. Although I hate to say it, and I respect all of you, you're not doing your jobs. If you can't because of inactivity or lack of desire, that's fine, but don't keep your rank and not deliver the goods. There will be replacements if there isn't a change in output.

This is tough talk, and I've talked tough before. I've learned my lesson the hard way, now, with people on the brink of leaving, and I'd urge you to understand I mean what I say. Freeloaders don't have a place here anymore, and if you continue to freeload and leech off what other people who work harder put into the clan, don't expect to stay around too long. I hate to do this, and I hope people will listen and change for the better and I won't have to start hefting the banhammer. Please don't make me have to do that, but I will.

I agree with everything you have said there, Golden.

I havn't exactly been doing my bit (Namely going to Events, Wars etc) and after reading that, I am going to change. From now on, if there is an Event, or War, then I will try my best to attend it.

I will also try to make some Members events, post a bit more, and try to make Ancient Legion a better place.

If you do change some Event Team member's, then I would be more than happy to try to schecule events often.

So, of I go now to go help out :D

animal magik - April 19, 2009 09:27 PM (GMT)
Sorry for being a bit slack in scheduling events Golden, but what is the point of scheduling them when no one shows up to 3 of them in a row?
I've been working very hard to fit in events with a very busy lifestyle, but no one shows to them, even after they complain we don't have enough events. While this one's still on the Event Coordinators, it's more on the general clan members.
And seriously, speaking of working rears off to make this place better, who's scheduled the most events in the past month?

Well to be honest, you have been scheduling events for our most experienced members lately. Arma trips, bandos trips and the like, not all of us can attend them and the rest don't want that much risk. Stick to events everyone can go to. It's a shame the skilling event didn't turn out well, but it was in the middle of a competition when ppl couldn't be asked to stop training. Timing is everything when it comes to this stuff.

animal magik - April 19, 2009 09:40 PM (GMT)
Never done an arma trip. o.o
Chaos Elemental isn't for experience people, especially seeing if we got people who actually said they'd come, coming, lvls 70 and 80 could have easilly survived.
Bandos trip is a gimme I suppose, but 10+ people saying they'll come, and no one coming. Go figure.
Skilling event. All day. F2p so everyone could come. Did anyone? No. Optional too so don't say they wouldn't have wanted to fish all day.
But I do agree with you a little Star, some of the events I've scheduled HAVE been for the more 'experienced' people, but definitely not all of them.
And with the contest, maybe the skilling event was there so people could have a break if they wanted to?
Seriously, between 7 days of non stop melee training or 6 days and 1 day having fun fishing with the clan, I'd pick the second one.

dflame58 - April 19, 2009 09:54 PM (GMT)
I agree as well golden.

about hte ECs,
we do need more events but when you think about it realistically, people dont want to have to be going to events all the time. Im trying to start making minigame events once a week if i'm not busy thats why they pop up like 2 days before the event is held.

keep up the work golden. This is needed.

animal magik - April 19, 2009 09:57 PM (GMT)
I'm seriously busting my gut trying my hardest to schedule events though, so please guys, actually show up?

Me, case in point. ^_^

It doesn't really matter what kinds of events -- as they're all unique. Quality will take care of itself. Right now we need quantity. :)

animal magik - April 19, 2009 10:01 PM (GMT)
And do you know how much of a let down it is when someone's trying their hardest to improve events in this clan and no one bothers to show at all? To 3 in a row?
And I'm pretty sure I've scheduled at least 4 events this month, which is basically one a week, and I've been away for a weekend on a stupid music camp too and weekends are the only times I can schedule them because of timezones.
Btw checky events forum pl0x?

Imso Hot - April 19, 2009 10:17 PM (GMT)
Shouldnt be that hard to schedule 1 even a week :o

Since everything is counted as an event, make clan meetups, f2p funning, 1 hour skilling contests and stuff ^_^

Event Coordinators are in powerful position since if they can make us good events, we enjoy them and then we also show up

And thats the best way to get to know each others

animal magik - April 19, 2009 10:18 PM (GMT)
Check events forum please Golden + others -.-
And yeah Imso, it's not that hard, just get people to actually come?

Do somethign different, ask people what they like

When you come to an event and enjoy, its much more likely that you'll come again

animal magik - April 19, 2009 10:21 PM (GMT)
Imso, I've never scheduled a same event twice.
Other EC's have scheduled one that's been scheduled before (which is fine) and I've been going to schedule another KBD trip soon (but one's just been scheduled) and there's plenty of diversity in the events yet the same type of events too, but no one seems to care no matter what type it is.

I know, and I did two or so weeks ago which is why I told you I'd be attending all wars that are reasonable for my timezone from now on, two weeks ago.

Redeyes2496 - April 19, 2009 10:37 PM (GMT)
I know you all must be very down in the dumps about this, but don't kill yourselves too hard. For most of the people that have posted, it's really not your faults; it's ours as the members for not attending. But we need to move on now. We've been addressed the issue and now we need to move on and work better. I will personally try to attend more events that are planned for f2p.

lordblack656 - April 19, 2009 11:02 PM (GMT)
im sorry. i didnt participate in the melee contest because theres no way in hell i can compete with you guys, 1 because im f2p, and 2 im lower lvl lol so its harder, but thats besides the point right now, im sorry i havent been making wars, or events, but its because i havent been on. if im ever on during an event ill come if its f2p, i will definately come no doubt about it, not like im dong anything besides wc anyway.
star i want to send you a personal sorry, when u put up the rules about posting, i got mad, im not completely positive why i got mad, i just did, and i said some things that i regret. and i am really sorry that i said them. i know you were just doing your job, thats all that can be asked, so i say it again i am very sorry. please dont leave we need you

Sword User - April 19, 2009 11:02 PM (GMT)
Tbh, I gave up making events after 3 different kind of events got 0 people, trying to reschedule to a different day and getting the same result...but W/E, I'll try again and see if things change

lordblack656 - April 19, 2009 11:18 PM (GMT)
good luck lol if u ever want help i guess u can ask meh =D oh i got an event for ya lol

Hellbound487 - April 19, 2009 11:51 PM (GMT)
agree with you entirely golden. this is one of the main reasons i left AL actually. I've always tried to be the nice guy and help out as much as i can. After a while i just got in kinda a sour mood and AL just got so boring for me (well all of RS basically) and for me there's no point in working if people are just going to log off at wars and not follow rules and whatnot. so basically if people arent going to listen why make new rules? Just what i have to say.

starwolf_ftw - April 20, 2009 12:12 AM (GMT)
There are others that have been taken advantage of, one I can think of is Jaal. We are very lucky to have her in AL, but please remember to not take her for granted. Always thank clan mates for information or items and lending because it might not be there the next day.

Yes, I think we rely on Jaal too much, and ask her for stuff nearly all the time. I think we need to cut her some slack, give her a break. She's a normal person just like us, and she wants to play to enjoy the game, not to have to buy our junk or stuff. I've done it too, we nearly all have, but I've stopped and I think we all should stop asking Jaal for favours every 5 minutes she's on.

Kerkennah - April 20, 2009 02:48 AM (GMT)
Finally you see what is going on, which is a good thing :)
I'm a member in the clan, and i always want to come to wars and stuff. It sadden'ed me when i made an unoffical clan war practice that some people logged out when they heard about and some didn't want to come.

I wish ppl would do the competitions just for fun. The only competition that I took seriously is the multiclan when i chinned. all the others i knew i wasnt going to win. I did good in slayer because i kept doing tasks. I did decent in fishing because i kept doing it and i had fun. They both helped me out greatly even tho i knew i wasnt going to win. i got 2.5k lobs in the fishing comp and i still have around 100 left.

you shouldnt be doing a competition for the only reason to win. You should do it because its fun too and you like the competition a little.

I think i sound like i'm contradicting myself a little.

basically do the comps b/c you want to and u have fun not just because ur gonna win.

starwolf_ftw - April 20, 2009 05:00 AM (GMT)
Right Flame. I enjoy the competitions because they give me a little more of a reason to train skills I don't really touch. Reasons to participate in competitions vary from person to person, but above all, please have fun.

So what consequences are in store if people continue to not pull thier weight?

Sick Mate 9 - April 20, 2009 11:12 AM (GMT)
i fully agree. im sorry that i havent been to very manly events at all. im not trying to make up and excuse, but seeing school has started again i wont be able the make many events seeing the timezone difference. but i am trying my best to make events.

As I said, if staff isn't doing their jobs, they'll be replaced. If members aren't being respectful and not showing up to stuff like wars, they'll be warned, and if they do it enough, kicked. ^_^

I these rules get stuck to then. I like the fact your'e willing to enforce rules more now.

thegame910 - April 20, 2009 07:38 PM (GMT)
i strongly agree with all that Golden has said, as long as it all gets stuck to. If we get serious about following these rules, as a clan we will improve.

tomilson21 - April 20, 2009 08:46 PM (GMT)
first off i want to say i agree with what ur saying golden

BUT

what more can the typical member do ? i mean i come to events if im online at the time i come to atleast 2 of the 4 wars a month somtimes i have to work on the weekends so i cant make it. if someone needs or asks a question in the cc i try to help. What more can i do?

You are one of those few that don't really need to worry about this because of RL issues.

What this is stating though is that those who are on about everyday for a few hours have to be apart more, and not just chill in the cc. We have events, and we have had some Short prep wars, and for those that are on continuously, absence should be no excuse if you are on.

Kerkennah - April 20, 2009 10:24 PM (GMT)
People need to stop being lazy bums and actually have fun with their clan mates, whether its an event or a war.

Yamunu - April 20, 2009 10:48 PM (GMT)
You know i must say. This is rather funny because alot of people complain about not having wars... and yet this is over the wars that those who whine and complain about not enough wars are the one whom are whining and complaining about short preps.. and just being active tot he wars we have.

And then theres those tat sign up for a community, well if you havent noticed before you sign up. we are a war based clan as well as skilling. your expected to attened wars, wether you like it or not. eventually it wont be an option. and excuses of your sudden disappeance will not be tolerated anymore. if you on, you come. if your off, you dont obviously. but if your seen missing right before a war (meaning you log off as mass) chances are there will be action taken against you in the future. were a community. we do tihngs together, not just talk and say hi to each other.

tomilson21 - April 20, 2009 11:15 PM (GMT)
yeah i agree with yams statement when u joined this clan u chose to be apart of it that was your decision, why join somthing that u dont want to take part in? Its not fair to the people who give to the clan, when there is people just sitting there taking and not doing there part to give back.

Kerkennah - April 21, 2009 12:11 AM (GMT)
I agree with yam too.

Yamunu - April 21, 2009 03:05 AM (GMT)
At any rate. As any great community we want to prospure to become, we must ALL work together to get there. All members, even trial, the ones to low a lvl to be a full pledged member must come to events, get to know there fellow members. Must grow, learn new things about eavh other. Practive your social skills, or what ever you have left playing this acusred game <.<... We must work together to get larger, be a better clan. And to be known through and through. So get off your lazy bums and get to work. No more free lancing, want to free lance. gtfo?. K thanks.

***side note~ ZOMG LOOK 100TH POST :o!!***

I just read to bold parts for now.

Honestly if it's about events I need to know ahead of time (like put it on the calendar or something) so I can plan to be online. Kinda busy with school and sports and stuff.
