As the title states this is a debate of whether or not China should be allowed to host the Olympics. Yes, we know it IS being hosted but that isn't what's being discussed here. The real discussion is why it should be allowed or why not. If you side with a little of each side, explain why.

My personal stance:

I do not think that China should be allowed to host. They have numerous human rights violations, including with the construction of the Olympic facilities. How many were forcefully displaced without compensation for that?

I do understand that some think that this is an opportunity for China to clean up, especially since they'll be in the spotlight but I think the chances are small, up to and including recent events as evidence. It remains to be seen how safe athletes will be there.

My first word. Let the debate begin!
