Mercedes Lackey is a pretty good author. If you read it, I suggest starting with either "Magics Pawn" or "Arrows of the Queen."
They're both part of the same series, just occur at different time periods of that world. Arrows occurs around 400 years after Magics Pawn.
Overall, I think it's an excellent series.

I have always found that Tom Clancey is a very good author...... I LOVED Without Remorse and Rainbow Six. I have all of the Netforce books but havent gotten around to reading them yet. Either way I have yet to be dissapointed with him.

I know we are all of more than young age on this forum...but those of you who like young books should pick up Series of Unfortunate Events...It's a good series. I just got done with book 10, and I find it very entertaining (lots of good humor even for adults) and with quite an interesting mystery going on. (Nothing like the movie!!!)

Also, although this is even a younger series than Unfortunate Events, all of you who haven't read C.S. Lewis's The Chronicles of Narnia should definitely pick it up and read a few. They are creating a movie off the book series to be shown come December of this year. 7 books in all, easy read. I tell you...this is the starter for younger kids who might not be able to get into books like LotR...this series is the basis. Even Rowlings of Harry Potter says that she developed some of her concepts and ideas off this series. It'll take anyone the better part of the week.

Just two quick suggestions at this time.

A Series of Unfortunate Events - and absolutly incredible book series. Easy reading yes, but still very entertaining. These books are good to read late at night, they just don't take much thinking. Another reason why I like them.

HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY!!! This series by Douglas Adams changed my life. You must read it before you die. Skip Book #4 (So Long and Thanks for all The Fish) though, it's confusing and disappointing. But the others are all amazing.

Everyone should pick up a copy of The Prophet, by Kahlil Gibran.

This book is a revalation apon itself. Filled with ideas/thoughts/poems/qoutes that are basically perfect, this book will have you look upon basic things with newfound wisdom and thoughtfulness. This book tackles basic things like teaching, talking, and clothes, to indepth things like on love, freedom, time, and beauty. This book is filed with mystery and mysticism.

I just really hated the Japanese guys at the end. But it was a great book.

I almost forgot to say: HP Lovecraft... I'm reading some of his stuff right now. It's really creepy.

It's basically fantasy, with a really creepy weird side to it. He wrote this stuff in the 30's and 40's.
