Andres Felipe Arias Leiva, Minister of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development Kidnapped!
Bogota,
Members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC have allegedly kidnapped Andres Felipe Arias Leiva, the Minister of Agriculture. Leiva, who recently had begun to project to rebuild agricultural locations, and visit them personally had traveled to Turbo to oversee the newest project, had never reported back. Felipe Ruz, a local farmer of Turbo has said that he witnessed Levia and his entourage leave his farm peacefully. However the armed guard of the entourage were supposed to call in saying they were due back at Bogota, however that never happened.
Three MD 500 Defender helicopters swept through the route of the entourage, and were unable to find any evidence that Levia had ever passed through the area. This leads the MoD of Colombia to believe that the entire entourage was kidnapped by the FARC.
Just two years ago, thirteen Colombian soldiers, journalists, and politicians were kidnapped by the terrorist organization, and eleven remain hostages.
Gen. Oscar González has stated that "all available soldiers will be placed on scouting duty over the next three month's, and if at all possible, we will negotiate a peaceful resolution to the release of our valued minister-"
President Uribe has yet to comment on the situation.
