Fleet sets sail for Ecuadorian coastThe aircraft carrier São Paulo, corvettes Barroso and Frontin, and the tanker Almirante Gastão Motta have left Rio de Janeiro for their rendezvous in Chile with other ships that will be helping to enforce the arms embargo against the military junta currently established in Ecuador. The São Paulo will be mainly be used for helicopter operations during its tour on duty, but two flights of A-4s will be onboard to maintain an active deterrence to all threats that would hinder the fleet from fulfilling its tasks. It will take the fleet approximately three weeks to reach the Ecuadorian coast with reaching Chile taking the most time.
