Brett Burton

You sure it's legal for mister Burton to become POTUS? I'd say it's even more of a birther debate than before tongue.gif

Middle Way? I could see Ahnold pulling it off. Sex scandal, citizenship and all.

There's always this handy little guide to help determine if there's a legitimate shot...

Not much my place to say, but couldn't you just Brett Burton your way into a military character with substantial rank? It's sort of a stretch to no-name into POTUS, not to mention in an RP where we're going from current events onward. (Unless I missed the memo and this round is starting at the end of the last round) It'd be simpler to just elect the already known candidate of your choice, reflecting an event that may shape the election, and then policy swapping after the first year I'd say into office.

Then, with this military character of yours you can have influential events from him occur. Nothing massively state-changing, but some melodrama never hurt anybody.

'Tis just my two cents.

US politics simply doesn't permit a nobody to become president in six months. In 2016 it would be a different story.

Thus my suggestion for writing this character in elsewhere.

Politician, Military, up and coming Programmer... whatever you want, but give it some back story over the next in-game 4 years.

Every candidate sucks, though, and what major event would cause any of them to suddenly change policy?

If it helps any, the vote is going to be very highly split--something like 31% Obama, 33% Romney, 36% Burton--and I still plan to write several posts in the coming week or so to fully legitimize/explain this. Give me a little time to flesh it out, remembering that 3Q2012 is lasting for two weeks, so there's plenty of time to change things around if it doesn't work out.

... When did a President keep all his promises and carried out strictly his projected policy?

/Now I'll stop, with certainty, throwing in my pennies... I need them, you know... to throw at people... like really cheap strippers./

I'm all for it. If a do-nothing junior Senator from Illinois can become President, and beat a very qualified candidate in the primaries, then I think anyone could provided that he (or she) has a good group of handlers.

I watched them strap him into the seat and shut the door. He might of looked a bit nervous about it but that was about all. I really believe that he knew he was going to be in hell in fifteen minutes. I believe that. And I've thought about that a lot. He was not hard to talk to. Called me Sheriff. But I didn't know what to say to him. What do you say to a man that by his own admission he has no soul? Why would you say anything? I've thought about it a good deal.

Okay, well... Max has a point.

I, also, have more pennies than I thought prior. Dammit, I'm going to stop though on a moral anti-clutter grounds.

American Presidential campaigns cost a hell of a lot of money to run in. If you don't have money, nobody sees you in the media, and then no one votes for you. To get money, you need to bend over for people who already have money. That means established political parties, and private entities.

No billionaire who has an itching to see his taxes cut is going to back his money on an unknown. If there isn't some existing track-record then the people with big bucks don't care, which is why its important to work your way up (see: Obama, not a regular fixture in Federal politics up until relatively recently but kept getting bigger jobs and getting on the radar more and more until 08, and the rest is history).

Like I said, plausible in four years. Not now. As for candidates sucking, welcome to politics.

And like hubris said, no President ever does it by the book. All kinds of events (or funding streams!) can change policies. Look at the Bush. Would he have gone on a merry crusade in the Middle East without 9/11, media hysteria, American desire for revenge, and so on? Nope.

You shaln't trample on the independence of a Latin American nation! Especially with a neo-imperialist organization, seeking to strip the nationalistic flare as only the UNASUR knows how!

Two notes on Ecuador:

1. Is that Betrand Russell, back from the dead writing about sexual politics in Latin America?

2. If there isn't a bodies-without-organs reference (or other Deleuzian jazz) in the next post I will be very cross with you.
