AIM, as a lot of people on PoliSims can attest to, is almost vital to a RP. It makes planning so much easier and, perhaps most importantly, allows us to branch out and make new, more substantial connections with other players. Hopefully if enough people post here this can be stickied? Don't have an AIM, but I'm on MSN as jimlawson@live.com, and we also have #rp-21c on Coldfront. I'd suggest we use Coldfront, because you can do private chats simultaneously with the group chat in the channel, it's easy to use, you don't have to have all the screennames set up, etc.

With the advent of Facebook, nobody widely uses AIM, YIM, or MSN anymore. Better to simply contact someone for their AIM if you want it.

I think this has been misunderstood...
I keep an AIM SN just for forums and such. I'm not trying to make RL friends of anything here and I would definitely not give out any real information. It's just that it is fantastically inconvenient to try to plan certain agreements, much less a war, via PMs that could take days for something that would take seconds over AIM. IRC is really the more convenient tool for IMing for the purpose of RP. It's why games like Cybernations and Nationstates are built around it.

Haha. Naw, I think there's a two-way misunderstanding here. :-P I guess what I was trying to say is that since Facebook came along to eat up the parts of the Internet that Google hadn't already digested, there are so few people who still use AIM regularly. For example, while AIM used to be my primary means of in real time e-communication, I barely sign on anymore. I took the 90 seconds to make a screen-name for the specific purposes of communicating with other people on forums and it's helped drastically. It'd a fantastic investment for both RPers and the game, but I see there's not a decent reception here...

Well, it's a good resource to have (even though some people, inexplicably, seem to like that god-awful MSN platform...), but I guess what I was more trying to say was not to expect much in the way of being able to sign on to AIM and see much of anyone, and that it was probably more effective to set up a "date" on AIM, as opposed to adding members and hoping to catch them online.
Maybe my articulation is off today.
