QUOTE (Azerbaijan (laurent) @ 15 Mar 2012 21.12.36)

To: Abdullah Gül

Hello,

We are pleased to receive your letter regarding Iran and its nuclear program. At the current point in time, we must try everything to prevent an Israeli strike on Iran. It would throw the whole who region into a war, including Azerbaijan and Turkey. I will be glad to hear your breakthrough deal.

signed,

Agshin Mehdiyev

Oh no, I just assumed I would approve like you did in letter form. Cause he made his in letter form. So I just assumed, you know... That I should too.

You reply in letter form when communicating between foreign ministries. He has chosen to do it also when contacting an international organisation which is acceptable, Schwer has chosen to do a quick reply however and ignore the formalities although we can assume IC they were sent.

Merged into OOC thread.

Actually, the request was addressed to Azerbaijan (as the current Security Council President and thus the one who has the power to set the agenda, including handling who speaks at the UNSC) and the Secretary-General. Azerbaijan or South Korea, in addition to any mod or admin, could have answered it. And I quite appreciated that Laurent put his reply in-character.

Thing is, Laurent, is that Schwer having gotten to it first meant that your response, while done appropriately, wasn't necessary.

There's nothing to veto. Turkey isn't a UNSC member so I can't propose a resolution for Russia to veto.

Turkey is laying out a proposal as a framework for the UNSC members to work with, discuss, debate, and negotiate in order to formulate a resolution. Iran, per our bilateral thread, basically gave Turkey the right to represent it in the UNSC. So if there's negotiations regarding Iranian inspections to be had, this is the time to do it.

I'm waiting on anyone else to say something before I attack the proposal. Looks like everyone is doing the same thing I am, though.

You know as soon as I saw your post in the OOC thread from the main page view, I knew I posted in the wrong forum.
I actually didn't even look where I was posting when I posted that, I assumed it was General Assembly.
I'll delete & repost it there.

You know, you really should field a North Korean candidate for the Secretary Generalship next time it's up for a vote.

It'll be interesting see whether Stok will accept a Russian peacekeeping fleet. It would make China look better than a veto, and is certainly more palatable than the US Navy ...

But you don't want the Russians stomping around in your back yard! Once they turn up, they're incredibly difficult to get rid of (see Eastern Europe after World War II tongue.gif).

Touché. The Americans usually (usually!) have the consent of the host government though. Even if the populace aren't so keen. tongue.gif

It is a lot easier to have the consent of governments when you pick them.
