Philippine Airforce,Alenia Aermacchi Ink Deal


Philippine Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin announced today the signing of a $270 million dollar agreement with Alenia Aermacchi of Italy to provide Upgrades to the Philippine Airforce's (PAF) S-211 and SF-260 aircraft and for the purchase of ten M-346 Advanced Jet Trainer aircraft.

Fifteen of the PAFs S-211 aircraft will be upgraded to S-311 Standard and will serve as the PAFs Basic Jet Trainer.

Six of the older model SF 260s will be upgraded to F Standard which will give the PAF a total of twenty-four SF-260F aircraft which will serve as the PAFs Basic Turbo-prop Trainer aircraft.

Ten M-346 will be purchased and will serve as the PAFs Advanced Jet trainer aircraft.

Philippine Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin further stated that" This is a first step forward in the PAFs modernization program.
The goal of the PAF is to eventually have at a minimum of between 12-24 multi-role Fighter Aircraft capable of meeting any threat to Philippine Sovereignty".

Philippine Army Announces Re-organization

The Philippine Army (PA) will be eliminating its present Division/Brigade structure and re-organizing to a Corps/Brigade organization.

The Corps/Brigade Organization will provide the PA with an increase in combat power,flexibility and rapidity of deployment,and standardization of all units of both the Active Army and Reserve Forces. Additionally,a cost-savings benefit is anticipated by transitioning to the Corps/Brigade organization.

The PA will initially re-organize from ten Infantry and 1 Light Armour Division into fifteen Infantry Brigades (13 Active 2 Ready Reserve) and 1 Light Armour Brigade

The Ready Reserve is expected to play a much more active role in the nations defense.

Eight Ready Reserve Divisions will re-organize into eight Ready Reserve Brigades consisting of six battalions for each brigade for a total of forty-eight Ready Reserve battalions.

There will be a series of 4 rotations for each of the forty-eight Ready Reserve battalions.

(12) Battalions on Active Duty for 2 years
(12) Battalions on Support for 2 years (Civil/Military Operations)
(12) Battalions Level two pre-deployment training
(12) Battalions Level one pre-deployment training

This series of rotations will provide the Philippine Army Ready Reserve with a constant flow of trained and experienced leaders and personnel.

Ready Reserve units will also be able to assist the civilian population by helping to develop local infrastructure by building roads,schools,and community centers or drilling wells to provide water for a community.

They can also provide health,medical and dental services and also stand ready to provide Disaster Rescue and Relief operations to the civilian population.

Other changes will be announced.

A basic load of 40mm ammo per Infantry Company will consist of 2/3 units of fire
Each unit of fire = 276 40mm rounds per company.
2/3 units of fire = 552/828 40mm rounds per company

FMF Funding Boosts PA C3I Capability

The Philippine Department Of Defense announced today that it has received a $100 million in FMF aid from the United States which will be used to increase the Philippine Army's and the Special Operations Forces of the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOCs) Command,Control,Communications,and Intelligence (C3I) capability.

PA creates new unit TOEs

The Philippine Army (PA) has created several new unit TOEs that will be added to the PAs 2015 reorganization plan, two of which are being presented here.

The Philippine Airforce's 773 Squadron K-9 Military Service Dog Training School will be expanded in both its mission and capacity.

The 773 Squadron's mission will be expanded to training Military Working Dogs (MWD), Dog Handlers,Dog Trainers,Veterinarians,and Vet Techs,for all Branches of the Philippine Armed Forces.

The present training capacity of the school of 100 or fewer dogs trained per year will be will be immediately increased to 170 MWDs dogs trained per year with a planned gradual increase in capacity of up to 300 MWDs trained per year.

Two Light Aviation Battalions will initially be formed and assigned to the PAs I Corps, from helicopters and fixed wing aircraft that are presently assigned to the Philippine Air Force.

The PA received ten CH-47D helicopters.The CH-47D helicopters will add a medium lift capability to each PA Light Aviation BN. Five CH-47D helicopters will be assigned to the General Aviation CO of each Light Aviation BN.

E-3 Sentry AWACS

ThePhilippine Air Force received two E-3 Sentry aircraft which will provide the PAF with an airborne warning and control system that will have an integrated command and control battle management, or C2BM,surveillance, target detection, and tracking platform. The aircraft will provide an accurate, real-time picture of the battlespace. AWACS will provide the PAF with a situational awareness of all friendly, neutral and hostile activity, command and control of an area of responsibility,effective and co-ordinated battle management of all the Philippine Armed Forces at all-altitudes and all-weather conditions and will provide an early warning of enemy actions during all Philippine Armed Forces and Allied operations.

P3C Orion MPA/ASW

The ten P3C Orion aircraft which were received will replace the thirteen F-27 aircraft presently serving in the Maritime Patrol role. Additionally,the P3C will be able to preform ASW missions which the F-27 was incapable of preforming.

AWA Class Hospital Ship (Formally USS Denver LPD 9)

The AWA class ship (formally the USS Denver LPD 9) was refit as a hospital ship and has been undergoing refitting, crew training and sea trials since 2013.
The AWA will be able to provide Regional Humanitarian missions/Disaster Relief and provide the Philippine Armed Forces with Combat Medical Support.

Philippine Army Replaces Artillery

G7 LEO 105mm Towed Artillery

The Philippine Army began replacing all its vintage WWII and Korean war M-101A1 and Vietnam era M-102 105mm artillery with the South African G7 LEO 105mm Towed Artillery.

Whereas the M101A1 has a maximum range of only 7 miles,the G7 LEO has a range of 20 miles using Base Bleed (BB) ammunition.

The South African G7 LEO 105mm howitzer presently out ranges all existing 105mm howitzers,as well as most current 155mm howitzers.

The G7 LEO will be part of each Philippine Army and Marine Corps Brigade Artillery Battalion. An artillery battalion will consist of (8) EFSS - 120MM M327 Towed Rifled Mortar and (6) G7 LEO 105mm Towed Artillery.
