I get the feeling the order size was based off of erroneous pricing points. He'll probably drop the number substantially when the price is rectified.

And I wouldn't buy Vietnamese ships at a steep discount after what just happened to half of Vietnam's fleet.

Probably. I also have a feeling he read my comment regarding the SAN's plans to get OPVs and misinterpreted OPVs as frigates. No big deal, just needs to be sorted out.

Meh. The fact that Vietnam lost so many ships in an engagement with a force that basically scattered its assets all over the place makes me think that Vietnam isn't the best country to buy naval assets from. They don't exactly have a good recent track record, y'know?

Not your fault, really. Just saying I wouldn't buy Vietnamese. Just like I'm sure you wouldn't buy North Korean tanks.

Slander and libel!

They were Soviet built. Russian ships of recent are of decent quality (This is why they are so cheap!)

Clearly you should rectify the shortcomings of the Soviet Union by posting in our meeting.

Also, I find it funny you didn't argue that China just got lucky and that their ships are still awful.

X you do know that H&K is a Germany company right? US doesn't have the ability to authorize production rights

Yep. I've heard murmurings that the US will be offering them through FMS IRL. And we don't have a Germany, and I really hate using the NPC thread since I can't just do my own. Similarly, I think players have often bought FN Minimis and Beretta 92s from the US under their American service name.

This is effectively my quick way of circumventing our (lack of a) Germany. If anyone has a problem with it I'll link it in the NPC thread.

It's actually fairly typical for the US to get both the rights and the political clout to sell designs of others that it produces under license.
The US has frequently sold C-27A/Js, even though they're license-built Italian G.222s (and now there are more countries using C-27s than G.222s). The US has offered HC-144s in the Americas, which is a license-built Spanish CN-235 MPA. India has been negotiating with the US for an FMS delivery of M777 howitzers, a license-built UK design. It's sold the M249 SAW quite heavily (Belgian Minimi). The Stryker and LAV, the latter of which has been regularly exported to nations like Saudi Arabia, are Canadian variants of a Swiss vehicle (MOWAG Piranha).

A lot of companies enjoy a relationship where the US can sell their equipment. It's often going to generate revenue they wouldn't otherwise get: either its contracted to a US-based subsidiary, or they get license fees, and it's not like the original developing nation can't protest and possibly even stop the sale. But few nations would refuse to sell to anyone that the US will.

If the united states is developing a new design of hospital ship we would indeed be interested. Our requirement are not picky but we do require it to be able to handle large volumes that can be airlifted to the ship and house modern medial equipment such as CT and MRI machines.

Uh.

"An MRI scanner is a device in which the patient lies within a large, powerful magnet where the magnetic field is used to align the magnetization of some atomic nuclei in the body, and radio frequency fields to systematically alter the alignment of this magnetization."

I was thinking that to, doesn't the Mercy have a whole section divided to scanners that has to have 1m thick composite walls to protect it. I know its one of the issues that forces patients to be moved around which is difficult in the old oil tankers as they have to go up, along, and then down.

"* No MRI because the ship is made of steel – not so good for a magnetic based machine. There are ways they could have dealt with it, but it would have been difficult and expensive and the MRI doesn’t add that much value anyway."
http://www.seasteading.org/2009/08/trip-re...-hospital-ship/

Basically, you can include one, but you have to jump through hoops and allocate a big section of the ship for something that doesn't help a hospital ship very much. It's not supposed to be end-of-the-line treatment like medical centers in major cities. It's meant to keep the patients alive until they get there (or, if it's a minor thing, fix them and avoid bogging down the hospital). It's basically a floating ambulance.

Evan1st You'll need to declare a defense budget before ordering ships.
