Yes, I know, the President of the EU Council is technically Herman Van Rompuy of Belgium. But I thought I'd just get things rolling. Angleter, feel free to moderate the meeting from here.

I'm a sadpanda, now.

I wanted to add ESA's future to the schedule, mate. I know ESA technically isn't the EU and vice versa, but I've got some fancy plans for space this round that I'd like to kickstart.

Just make a separate ESA thread. ESA being discussed at an exclusively EU summit doesn't make sense since certain non-EU members aren't invited in an equal capacity to EU summits. I also believe there are different people who do the ESA discussion and EU discussions.

Also, invite Russia, I might want to discuss the ISS with you people. Unless America is there, then I will just demand my modules back tongue.gif

Jackemsley, Merkel's proposed EFSB is being touted to effectively puppetise the Bank of Greece under Franco-German control and takeover Greek fiscal policymaking. As a genuine question, does Papademos want this?

Err, yes because Papademos is a puppet Prime Minister installed by the EU.

The bailout was agreed to by EU finance ministers in February. The only thing standing in the way of its final approval was acceptance of debt write-downs by private creditors, which, while it technically happened after the game started, is still considered to have gone through.

I love all of this EU financial talk.

Makes me mushy and want to be in Europe.

Switch your policy and vie for joining the EU again? I myself am not interested in this clusterfuck. I do not understand it fully and cannot appropriately express my opinions within the debate (as if my posts don't give it away). It's frustrating and what's further aggravating, I can't just leave. In fact, if you (Dax) are so vested in this EU assembly rabble, I invite you to RP for me (if that is at all legal on this forum) within these meetings since you have a far better understanding than I.

Don't take that too seriously. You have your own full plate.

What is the outcome of the 2012 meeting? We are half-way through the last 2013 quarter and its a still open thread. We should actually already had a 2013 meeting and planning for a 2014 one as well.

Well given that all the major players seemed to come to a consensus on the new fiscal treaty, I called for a vote... I don't know if the lack of response means disapproval or just plain laziness.

I was waiting for others to reply. I'm not entirely sure why it went dead so abruptly. Perhaps we can come up with an OOC consensus on its outcome and move on?

I have invited some players to NPC Germany, Greece, and Cyprus, which I feel are critical to any Eu-Turkey summit of the nature which we are attempting to have. Apollo has agreed to NPC Greece (as the outgoing Greek player). If other players chime in as NPCs, understand that it's because I invited them.

Sorry I might have been a bit "heavy" with the opening post for Cyprus.
I thought about breaking it down a bit, but didn't have time to go back and edit it had to get to class to finish a major project.

My wording on the customs union might be a bit off or iffy, but technically I am correct.
Turkey has not ratified it as far as Cyprus is concerned, because obviously it doesn't recognize it so it cant ratify it with a country it doesn't recognize as existing.

No worries, mate. I would expect nothing less than firebrand rhetoric from you as Cyprus. That's why I asked you to be the NPC :-P

Truth is, Turkey and Europe have ratified it back in 1995. The way the EU internal market works is such that individual member countries do not have their products stamped with individual "nation of origin" stamps like most countries do. With a few notable exceptions (like with PDO, DOP, and AOC products), EU products use a common EU customs stamp. Therefore, products from Cyprus that travel within the EU's Free Trade Areas cannot readily be distinguished from any other EU member's products, and the presence of an EU customs stamp means that Turkey cannot legally deny customs privileges to Cypriot products bearing that EU customs stamp. As far as I know, Turkey doesn't enforce any specific trade restriction on products with an EU customs stamp. They may deny Cypriot products stamped with a Cypriot customs stamp, but I'm not entirely sure of that and anyway likely accounts for so minuscule a percentage of Cypriot exports and trade as to warrant a big international incident or the threatening of the EU-Turkish FTA over. As far as I know, the only Cypriot products that have the PDO status that would necessitate a national origin stamp are ouzo and Commandaria wine; not very much, in other words.

Yes but isn't part of it also the opening of ports/airports too?
As far as I know, Cypriot flagged ships and aircraft aren't allowed into Turkish ports..
It all comes back to the recognition & occupation issues.
